BOYNE RIVER BACK TO SCHOOL INFORMATION SEPTEMBER 2026
Dear Boyne River Families,
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year!
I am incredibly excited to introduce myself, Jennifer Frans, as your new Principal. It is an honour to join this wonderful school community, and I look forward to working closely with our dedicated staff, talented students, and supportive families. Over the coming weeks, I look forward to meeting you and learning more about what makes Boyne River such a great place to be. Please take the time to read our welcome back package outlining processes and other important information for families.
With Appreciation,
Jennifer Frans- Principal
Boyne River PS
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL PROCEDURES
All families will be receiving an email at the end of the day on Friday, September 4, 2026 with the name of your child(rens) teacher to assist in making the first day entry run smoothly.
Please dress students for the weather (raincoats/umbrellas) as there will not be an inclement entry on the first day unless there are severe weather conditions.
Please have students arrive on the first day of school between 9:10 - 9:25am.
Our staff will be meeting students in the following areas and will have grade signs for the students to navigate. Staff will also be wearing their Boyne River staff shirts or bright safety vests.
K on tarmac closest to school and in kindergarten yard
Gr. 1 on the tarmac beside portables
Gr. 2- 3 between the rows of portables
4-6 on the field
7/8 on the East tarmac
Parents/Guardians are not permitted past the gated areas and onto the school grounds.
The first day of school for students in Year 2 (Senior) Kindergarten to Grade 8 is Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Year 1 (Junior) Kindergarten students will begin school on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
GETTING TO SCHOOL
As always, walking is our first choice. If your child walks or rides their bike to school, we ask that they not arrive before supervision begins at 9:10. When they arrive after 9:10, they should not congregate on any part of school property, but head directly onto the supervised yard to their designated zone.
If driving your child there are two choices:
A - Use our Kiss’n Ride - Families who opt to drop students off at school must enter the parking lot using the driveway across from Riley Street and follow the loop around the edge of the parking lot. Please pull your vehicle forward as far as possible before stopping to unload. This will help us move the line along more efficiently. Students should only exit from the passenger side of the vehicle (from the front or back seat). We understand that some students require some assistance.
B- Park at the park or parking lot and walk your child over to the gate. Please do not cross the traffic in the kiss n’ ride. Instead use the crosswalk and sidewalk. The parking at the front of the school is closed to traffic during arrival and dismissal. This is the bus loading zone.
SUPERVISION
Staff yard supervision begins at 9:10. Students are not permitted on the yard until this time. The only children on the property before 9:10 will be those who are supervised by our on site Child Care Centre.
INCLEMENT WEATHER PROCEDURES
All other school days during inclement weather, staff members will remain at the entrances and outside directing students to their meeting area inside the school. All students should go into the main building. Teachers of classes in portables will meet their classes at the designated area in the school and walk with them to the portable at 9:25.
PLEASE LEAVE OUR YARD GATES CLOSED
Yard access gates close at 9:25am by our staff. When the gates are closed, please do not open them for the safety of your children as there is no supervision. The yard supervision ends promptly when the bell rings at 9:25 am.
If the gates are closed, please take your students to the front doors, ring the bell, and have them signed in by the office. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping all our students safe.
DISMISSAL PROCESS FOR END OF DAY
Students who are being picked up at 3:45 will leave through the gate at the back of the school. Students in the Primary division will need a parent to connect with the teacher (eye contact or a quick wave) before their child will be released. Students in grade 4-8 will be dismissed through the front and side gates. The first week of school is typically very busy at the gate. As students and parents become familiar with the routines, we have found over the years that the congestion eases by the end of September. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
Thank you for your assistance in these important safety matters.
EARLY PICK-UP & LATE ARRIVALS
Regular attendance is essential to student success, and we work hard to protect instructional time from unnecessary interruptions. If a late arrival or early dismissal is absolutely necessary, we kindly ask families to avoid parking in the bus route. For safety reasons, buses cannot go around parked vehicles, and we cannot load or unload students if the route is blocked. Please also note that dismissal is a very busy time, and we cannot guarantee that we will be able to locate your child if you arrive to pick them up close to the end of the school day. If you need to pick up your child(ren) before the dismissal bell, we ask that you do so before 3:25 p.m. We will not be able to call students down after this time as they are busy getting ready for the end of the day. It can also get very congested in our front lobby, so to keep students moving, we would appreciate that once your child has signed out with the office that you vacate the lobby area. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in keeping our students safe and learning time uninterrupted.

CLASSROOM SNACKS & CELEBRATIONS
At Boyne River PS we understand that traditions and celebrations are important, and that food plays a pivotal role in them. To ensure the safety of all students, including those who may have life-threatening medical conditions, please ensure that any food is pre-packaged and nut-free. Please check with your child’s teacher regarding any other dietary restrictions in the classroom.
FLAG FOOTBALL
Tryouts for Flag Football will be taking place on September 14,15, 16, 17, and 18 at Boyne River PS during first nutrition breaks.
We encourage all interested students to participate and showcase their skills. Parents and guardians are reminded to review the Ophea safety requirements ahead of tryouts to stay informed about any associated risks and help ensure a safe and positive experience for all.
We are excited to offer this opportunity for students to get involved, build team spirit, and showcase their talents.
All students are required to complete the cash online permissions and high risk form in order to participate in tryouts.
